We need more from senior players – Ian Wright slams Xhaka after red card against Liverpool

Former Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, on Thursday, hit out at Granit Xhaka after the midfielder was sent off in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

The first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash ended without goals, with the major talking point being Xhaka’s red card after only 24 minutes.

The Swiss midfielder recklessly kicked Diogo Jota in the chest when attempting to clear a long ball.

Referee Michael Oliver produced a straight card.

It was Xhaka’s fifth red card of his Arsenal career and Wright took to Twitter to voice his frustrations.

“How many times this season have we said “we need more from the senior players” ?! Game after game!!!” he tweeted.

Xhaka will now serve a two-game ban, missing games against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
