The majority of residents in Awonmanma in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo state had left their homes as unknown gunmen stormed the community to destroy and set ablaze shops, houses, and vehicles.

One of the residents who witnessed the incident said, ” There was a clash between unknown gunmen and security agents in Awonmama, the gun battle fired from different sides ignited fire from one of the inflammable substances packed in one of the shops and vehicles in the area, and the fire spread from one house to the next, burning commercial buses and filling stations. The fire ruined people’ s shops. ”
Meanwhile, as at the time of reporting this story, according to the information gathered from multiple news sources, the majority of the individuals living in the area have been rendered homeless, as all of their belonging had been damaged by fire.
The businessmen and women who were worried as their goods were destroyed by fire are the ones who have been most affected.
It was reported that some of the people in the affected areas were observed escaping through the bushes to an unknown location.
They were claimed to be frightened of any kind of gunmen attack. They were spotted dragging their children after them while carrying their belongings.
” We are running away with our children with a few of our properties. We don’ t want to be killed. We want to be safe. Let us go where nobody will kill us, ” one of the residents said.
