Sacked workers of Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State have taken the authorities of the Local Government and the council Chairman to the National Industrial Court in Port Harcourt.
The aggrieved workers are demanding immediate reinstatement, adequate compensation, payment of outstanding salaries owed and bio-metrics to enable them receive their salaries as their colleagues.
When the matter came up in court on Wednesday for hearing, a lawyer from the office of the State Attorney General in absence of a lawyer from the local government presented herself to represent the council authorities.
The move, however,, caused some argument in the court.
The Presiding judge, Justice Z.M Bashir, after listening to the argument, directed parties to effect proper service and response before adjourning to the 18th of November, 2021 for hearing.
Counsel to the sacked Ahoada East Local Government workers, Ewor Richard said, “the aggrieved workers of Ahoada East Local Government, “are in court to demand for justice.”
Some workers of the council had last year protested severally over their sack and months of unpaid salaries, which drew the attention of Civil Society Organizations and leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employee, NULGE who promise to intervene in the matter.
The workers are claiming to have been duly employed by the council seven years ago.
