The Red Arrows will fly over Wembley Stadium on Sunday to salute the England players shortly before kick-off in the Euro 2022 final with Italy.
The RAF squadron will head out from Bournemouth Aerodrome and up to London ahead of the crunch final with the country holding its breath to see if Gareth Southgate’s side can win England’s first major trophy since 1966.
Now the updated plan is to allow the planes to carry out a flypast of Wembley Stadium on Sunday instead.
People can catch a glimpse of the famous RAF outfit as they head up to Wembley and then continue north over Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire before arriving at their base in Lincolnshire at around 8.10pm.
Plans, as happened at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, can change according to weather conditions and other factors but currently the Red Arrows are set to take off from Bournemouth at 7.27pm.
Their new route will take them out over Wiltshire before passing into the skies over Berkshire, Oxfordshire and South Bucks.
The Wembley flypast is set to take place at 7.48pm – around 12 minutes before kick off in the Euro 2020 final.
There will be 65,000 fans at Wembley which is the largest crowd at a sporting event since the pandemic broke out and it is being seen as an indication of the country turning the corner in the fight against the virus.
It is reported that tickets for the match have been selling on the black market for tens of thousands of pounds for the historic occasion.
While is also hoped that a victory could see a new celebratory Bank Holiday in August.
The FA are hoping that there will be no repeat of the booing of the opposition national anthem in the semi final against Denmark where also their keeper Kasper Schmeichel had a laser shone at him, and it led to a £26,000 fine by UEFA.
Southgate asked for fans to be “respectful” on Saturday ahead of the game.
