The leadership of the Northeast chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Mohammedu Buhari to as a matter of urgency revisit issues militating against the take off of the Mambilla Hydro Power Project.
The group, which made the call via a communique issued shortly after their 2nd stakeholders meeting, which too place in Jalingo, Taraba State, expressed sadness that despite the billions of Naira so far expanded on the project, its taking off has remained a mirage.
Jointly signed by its Chairman, Udi Pasore and the Secretary, Mohammed Sani, the group which could not fathom why the project which is located in Mambilla Plateau in Sardauna Local Government Council of Taraba State has continued to drag, beckoned on the President to bring to book those witch-hunting the success of the project.
Apart from the Mambilla Hydro Power Project, which the group said has being giving them concerns, the alleged refusal of the government to Commission the 40MW Kashimbilla Power Plant project located in Takum council of the state, they said has as well become a source of worries to them.
The forum said it is not comfortable with the activities of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and called on President Buhari to immediately review the leadership and the board members of the commission.
Suggesting for dissolution of the board members as well as that of the leadership, the Commission, since inception, they believed has done nothing meaningful to address the plights of the region.
Citing the way and manner the commission since inception has being awarding contracts without taking into consideration the principles of due process, the president, as suggested in the communique should go ahead by reviewing the activities of the leadership of the commission whose activities they said are questionable.
