She’s the newest member of the Middleton clan – but just who is Kate’s glamorous new sister-in-law?
Alizée Thevenet tied the knot with the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother, James, over the weekend, in a ceremony thought to include Kate, Prince William and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
In an emotional message to his 219,000 Instagram followers, James said: “Yesterday I married the love of my life surrounded by family, friends and of course a few dogs in the beautiful village of Bormes-les-Mimosas. Words cannot describe how happy I am.”
Raised in France, 32-year-old Alizée has built up a high-level career in finance and, fittingly for someone who speaks three languages, also appears to love travelling the world.
Her glamorous Instagram page is full of holiday shots, showing her relaxing on the beach in Greece and exploring the colourful streets of Thailand.
Having met her now husband through a chance encounter thanks to his playful pup, she’s previously been described as “deliriously happy” over the romance by her delighted dad – but has battled Covid restrictions to finally tie the knot.
Watersports addict who loves to travel world
Before settling in the UK, Alizée travelled the world, with stints in living in Germany, Indonesia, Chile, France and Belgium.
Studying accounting and finance in Brussels, she later completed a degree in investment and finance at Queen Mary, University of London – where she graduated with a masters.

Describing herself as having a ‘high work ethic and dedication to success’ on LinkedIn, she currently works as a director at fin tech firm TreasurySpring.
Away from work, Alizée loves to get stuck into skiing, sailing and watersports – and according to her dad, even her name is inspired by his own love of windsurfing – the “Alize wind that fills the sails”.
Speaking to MailOnline in 2019 after details of her romance with James emerged, her father, retired diplomat Jean-Gabriel Thevenet, couldn’t hide his excitement.
“My daughter Alizée is very happy with James, they are very much in love,’ Jean Gabriel, who lives in Paris, said after pictures emerged of them in St Barts.
“James is a very charming man. I am very happy that Alizee is together with James. I know she is very happy. We keep our fingers crossed for them.
He added: “James and the Middleton family are very charming. We have a lot of admiration for the whole Middleton family – James, his sisters and his parents.”
Dog mad couple met after pup played Cupid
James Middleton, who previously had an on-off relationship with actress and former Byker Grove star Donna Air, is a keen dog lover and previously insisted it was “one requirement” for any love interest.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, he revealed Alizée passed the test with flying colours, quipping: “Fortunately she is…she loves dogs.”
In fact, when the pair first met at the private South Kensington Club in 2018, it was his cocker spaniel, Ella, who played Cupid.
James said that he allowed Ella, who had been sitting at his feet, to go and get a drink of water from a bowl across the room. However, she made a beeline for Alizée, leaving him embarrassed.
He explained: “I went over to apologise and bring Ella back. But Alizée thought I was the waiter and ordered her drink while continuing to stroke Ella, who at this point was on her back lapping up the attention.
“Little did I know, but I had just met my future wife, all thanks to Ella. If I hadn’t trusted Ella, I wouldn’t have brought her to the South Kensington Club and she wouldn’t have been able to say hi to the woman who became my fiancée.”
The couple dated for more than a year with Alizée spotted on a family holidays with the Middletons soon after.
They announced their engagement in September 2019, after James reportedly popped the question on a trip to the Lake District.
Teasing his Instagram followers with the news, James shared a series of romantic photos of the pair together, captioning them: “I asked @alizeethevenet a question the other day…And she said…”
He soon made the big reveal, snapping her showing off a huge engagement ring with the message: “She said OUI. Our secret is out but we couldn’t be happier to share the news.”
Marriage plans torn up by Covid lockdowns
Last year, James revealed the couple had twice had to postpone their nuptials due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He revealed the delays on Instagram in a sweet post to mark the first anniversary of their engagement.
In the post, he shared a gorgeous image of himself and Alizée on holiday on the Italian island of Sicily, while sailing a boat.
He wrote: “It’s a year since I asked Alizée to marry me and what a year it has been!
“Two homes, lockdown, two attempts at a wedding, a litter of [dog emoji], launching of new company @ella.co, a beard shave and much more but the best part is that I get to share it with you @alizeethevenet and I can’t wait to take on whatever the future holds for us.”
Alizée herself appears to have taken the delays in her stride – and fallen in love with the dog-mad couple’s growing brood.
In one Instagram snap, she’s surrounded with no less than five pups in an adorable snap.
In another one, she posted a picture with a pooch behind a moody sunset, writing: “Morning run with this one – my new BFF!”
