Kate Garraway admits she ‘feels for’ Prince Andrew’s daughters Eugenie and Beatrice as royal faces sexual assault trial

Kate Garraway has expressed empathy for Prince Andrew’s daughters Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, following the news that his sex assault case will go to trial.

A judge in the US yesterday dismissed an attempt from the Duke of York’s legal team to throw out a lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, in which she claims she was made to have sex with the royal by late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has vehemently denied all claims.

It means the case will now go to trial with the judge setting a projected time frame of September-December.

Discussing the scandal on Good Morning Britain, Kate said: ‘Here we are in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, she’s 95, this is supposed to be her favourite son.

‘The whole thing feels deeply uncomfortable and actually, his daughters I feel for. It’s very very tough for them, isn’t it?’

Andrew, 61, shares daughters Beatrice, 33, and Eugenie, 31, with former wife Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

Responding to Kate’s statement, royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: ‘I think you’re right to point to Beatrice and Eugenie, they’re said to be extremely distressed by everything that’s going on and what daughter wouldn’t be? And also the Queen, it is humiliating, embarrassing, a lady of 95 presumably having to confront her 61-year-old son, favourite son, and say, “Are these sex allegations true?”

‘That’s just so embarrassing but surely she needs to know the truth because if she’s going to stand by him, which I’m sure she wants to as a mother, and if she’s going to foot for what is going to be a multi-million pound deal, whether it’s settled in or out of court, then she needs to know the truth.’

She added: ‘It’s so sad, such a shadow over this Jubilee year.’

The Queen will officially celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, to mark her ascension to the throne 70 years ago, in June although the actual anniversary falls on February 6.

Ms Giuffre claims she was made to have sex with the Queen’s son when she was 17 and while she was the victim of a sex trafficking ring orchestrated by billionaire Epstein and his girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Prince Andrew denies all allegations made against him and has previously claimed to have no recollection of meeting his accuser.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
