Juventus are lining up Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a replacement for Arsenal target Arthur Melo, according to reports in Italy.
Arsenal have made the signing of Arthur one of their priorities for the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his midfield options.
The Gunners are understood to be in advanced talks with Juventus over a loan deal for the rest of the season, but the Italian club are reluctant to let the Brazilian leave until a replacement is found.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus have earmarked Loftus-Cheek as their top target if they do end up losing Arthur this month.
The report claims that the Serie A club also have Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes and Lille’s Renato Sanches on their shortlist but believe those deals would be more difficult.
Loftus-Cheek, who will still have two years remaining on his contract at the end of the season, has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season after many expected him to leave Stamford Bridge on loan at the start of the campaign.
Speaking earlier this season, Thomas Tuchel suggested that Loftus-Cheek had the ability to secure a regular role in Chelsea’s side.
‘I see the potential and I think he knows about his potential,’ said Tuchel.
‘Since he was an academy player everyone was very aware about his potential.
‘But the next step is to show it to everyone. Everybody in the stadium must go home and know how good and how strong Ruben is.
‘That is the next step, to actually put the potential on the street and drive the car as fast as possible.
‘This is what he’s doing for many weeks otherwise he would not play, otherwise there would be no chance for him to play, because this is about performance.’
