The late Imam Liman Adamu.
The community of Sabon Garin Bilbis, in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina, currently mourns after unknown gunmen murdered the Chief Imam of Jumu’ a Mosque in the area.
It was learned that the gunmen had arrived there on a mission to abduct the Imam, but he resisted their attempts to whisk him away, which later resulted in them shooting him dead.
The Imam, Mallam Liman Adamu, had been at his farm when the incident took place. According to an official of his mosque, Lawal Mamman, the kidnappers had arrived at the farm on motorbikes.
They had demanded that Adamu get on one of the machines and follow them, but he wouldn’ t do it. This infuriated them, and they began to threaten to kill him with their weapons.
But he refused, saying that he wasn’ t going anywhere, despite their threats. According to him, one of his legs wasn’ t good, and as such, he couldn’ t accompany them to the bushes.
After a heated argument between him and the gunmen, one of them eventually said that they should just end his life and leave. So they shot him and left his dead body on the farm.
However, some women, who had been working on the farm with the Imam, were whisked away by the gunmen, and their whereabouts currently remain unknown.
The late Imam was described as a humble and patient man who was peace- loving and hated to see trouble. He was well- respected by the Muslim faithful in the town. He left several wives and many children behind.
The kidnappers took the women on the Imam’ s farm to an unknown location, but are yet to establish contact with their families or the town leaders to ask for ransom. There is also no official statement from the police.
