Hollyoaks has revealed the reason why the Salon De Thé went up in flames earlier this week, and despite evidence to suggest otherwise, Becky Quentin (Katie McGlynn) was not involved.

The cause of the blast was revealed to be a gas leak, which was confirmed by Becky herself following her arrest.

James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) was on a mission to find out who was to blame for the blast, which claimed the lives of three of the village’s finest, including his mum Marnie (Lysette Anthony).

His investigation led him to Becky, after he saw a video clip on social media which indicated that she threw a smoke bomb into the patisserie moments before it went up in smoke.

Becky was subsequently arrested by DI Cohen (Ariana Fraval), much to the shock of all those in the village, but she was cleared of any wrongdoing in the following edition of the soap.

‘The fire service have ruled [the smoke bomb] out,’ said Becky. ‘The cause of the explosion was a gas leak.’

James, however, refused to accept this explanation, and pursued his vendetta against Becky, intimidating her in Ollie Morgan’s (Gabriel Clark) home, before calling the social worker on her!

His plan backfired, with the social worker confirming that she’d checked with the police regarding the arrest, who corroborated that there was no evidence to suggest she was involved in the fire.

James struggled to come to terms with such a thing. Becky, however, gave him a piece of her mind, before storming off with Henry in tow.

Hollyoaks continues Monday January 17 at 7pm on E4.
