Gunmen Kidnap UNIJOS Female Professor, Husband in Plateau


A Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Jos, Grace Ayanbimpe, has been kidnapped alongside her husband by gunmen in Jos the Plateau state capital.

In the early hours of Monday, gunmen stormed her home, which is located behind Haske Quarters in Lamingo, Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

A staff of the University of Jos who wants to remain anonymous said, “This morning, we got information that Professor Grace Ayanbimpe of Department of Medical Microbiology was abducted from her residence with her husband.

“Please, pray for their safe and quick release from their abductors. May we also see the end of insecurity in our country.”

A resident of the community, Philip Dachung, confirmed the incident to reporters in Jos on Monday.

Dachung said, “The kidnappers attacked the professor’s home around 3 am. They broke into their apartment and shot into the air. Neighbors who were terrified by sounds of gunshots could not come out for the fear of being hit by stray bullets.

Plateau state police command confirmed the abduction.

The police spokesperson, Gabriel Ubah told Channels Television that the command received a report of kidnapping of a man and his wife at their residence behind Haske quarters in Lamingo area of Jos North local government area of the state.

He stated further that the police are making concerted efforts towards rescuing the victims and arresting the perpetrators.

The abductors are yet to establish contact with the family or the university authorities.
