Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has been deeply affected by the recent homophobic attack in EastEnders.

Callum (Tony Clay), Eve (Heather Peace), Stacey (Lacey Turner), Ash (Gurlaine Kaur Garcha) and Ben were attacked by Neil and his friends a few weeks ago.

During the ordeal, Ben froze with fear, unable to help Callum, who was being kicked at the time.

Since then, Ben has once again failed to talk about what’s on his mind.

Unable to speak with Callum, Ben managed to tell Pam that he wasn’t coping this week.

Tonight, Ben met up with Callum, Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Pam and Phil (Steve McFadden) to explain how the attack has made him feel.

Ben told his family that he’s afraid to walk down the street, fearful of another attack or homophobic comments and pointed out Stuart (Ricky Champ) attacked him on the night of Pride a few years ago.

As Callum and Ben returned home, Ben told his husband that they must hide who they are if they’re to simply – stay alive.

Callum was shocked, reminding Ben this wasn’t the answer but, he couldn’t get through to him.

Afraid to be who he really is in public; how will the next few weeks pan out for Ben?

Can anyone change his mind?
