Sagir Hamida, an APC governorship contestant in Zamfara for the 2019 governorship election, was assassinated by armed men on Sunday evening, according to a family source.
According to the deceased’ s elder brother, Kabiru Hamida, Sagir was killed near Abuja while on his way back from the weekend, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Mr. Kabiru, who stated that the family members were still obtaining information about what happened from the authorities and any eyewitnesses, indicated that the information would not be available until Monday at the earliest.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Hamida, an Abuja- based businessman and former director in the federal civil service, ran for the governorship of Zamfara under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011 but was defeated in the party’ s primary election.
