According to Sahara Reporters, Igbo groups in the south have challenged the Northen leaders for opposing the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
On Tuesday, Igbo youths released a report condemning the statement made by Arewa youth against the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Rather than talk about Nnamdi Kanu and convince president Muhammadu Buhari not to release him, Igbo youths urge the north to focus on ending terrorism and other deadly activities in the region.
Igbo youths said ” The north urge to intensify efforts on solving attacks of Boko Haram terrorists and bandits ravaging the North, rather than poking nose into the affairs of Kanu. We wonder why Arewa youths have never given such opposition to the release and reintegration of so- called repentant Boko Haram terrorists but were against the release of Nnamdi Kanu, a freedom fighter. ”
” As a civil group, we have consistently made it clear that Kanu is engaging in self- determination, which is recognized under the international law and conventions. The Biafra agitation is also undoubtedly being fuelled by the ill- treatment of the Igbo in Nigeria, and till this point, there appears to have been no lessons learned by those benefiting from this unjust nature of the country. ”
” Clearly, this is why the Arewa youths will talk the way they did. One expects that they should be more concerned with the worsening activities of bandits and Boko Haram, than Nnamdi Kanu. We urge President Buhari to go ahead and honor the Igbo leaders in line with his promise during the visit. ”
” Also, we urge the Governors and the South- East caucus of the National Assembly, led by Senator Ike Ekweremadu not to relent on their efforts. The timely release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should be of utmost concern to every Igbo person, and our political, religious and traditional leaders must unite to accomplish that goal. ”
Sahara Reporters stated that the Igbo youths made this statement a few days after a northern e known as Arewa youth forum urged President Buhari not to release Nnamdi Kanu.
Arewa youth had earlier claimed that Nnamdi Kanu will do more bad things and man become more dangerous if he is released and to avoid that, he must be kept in custody and made to face trial.
Due to this statement, Igbo youths have replied and have urged President Buhari to go ahead with his plan of releasing Nnamdi Kanu for the sake of peace in Nigeria.
