The leadership of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has warned against the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the indigenous peoples of Biafra, IPOB. AYCF national president Yerima Shettima warned that more agigators would further complicate the uncertainty in the country if the IPOB leader were released.
Shettima, speaking on DAILY POST, said it would be detrimental to Nigeria and the federal government to be able to leave Kanu without penalty. He was responding to President Muhammadu Buharis’ remark that he was considering releasing the IPOB leader. Buhari made the above remark during a meeting with various leaders from the southeast region under the auspices of the highly regarded Dai Igbo, led by the First Republic MP and the Minister of Aviation and Police.
Chief Mbazulike Amaechi in Abuja state. Amaechi pleaded with the president to release Kanu and opted for military action. Buhari, who promised to consider his appeal, found that Kanu’ s unconditional release was against the doctrine of the separation of powers between the executive and the judiciary. However, Shettima insisted that Kanu’ s release would undermine what he did to Nigeria.
According to Shettima,
” Probably to undermine the consequences of what this man (Nnamdi Kanu) did to the country and to imply that if he is allowed to leave without penalty, he will send the wrong message. Spies Nobody in the history of this country has more damage to this country from this young man’ s civil war.
” If at the end of the day he is allowed to go with impunity after what he has done, it means that no one will commit such a crime and he will be punished because anyone who always refers to him will be punished. ” And that means that the constitution will automatically be repealed in the country” .
He argued that the law should be able to apply all of its procedures to the Kanu’ s problem. ” The law is subject to all of its provisions and I hope that’ s not what I think as no one has caused the damage this man has done to this country; and so far we have not recovered the consequences of what he did to this country, we are looking.
” If we let them go unpunished, we’ ll say the country must produce millions. See with him alone the damage he has done to your area, but for us in the north we will make sure that he has no pity.
” Nobody says he should be executed if he has not committed a crime, but if he is discovered he will; then he should be forced to face the consequences of his actions once the matter goes to court, ” he added.
