An aide to Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of Osun State and current Minister of Interior, Abosede Oluwaseun has described as partisan and full of concocted lies the claims by the Nigerian Police, Osun Command that the incident at his home on Thursday night was one of armed robbery and not attempted assassination.
Oluwaseun in a statement he signed on Wednesday condemned the police for debunking the earlier information of an attack by suspected assailants on his Dada Estate, Osogbo home.
According to him, “In the first instance, I was attacked by masked armed men in my house shortly after 10 pm of Thursday, 26th of August, 2021, while the police arrived the house around 1 am, two hours after the criminals had gone with my car and phone.
“This is because they tied the hands of my wife and myself and our mouths were stuffed and gagged. This act made it take longer to reach our neighbours who could untie us before proceeding to get help, and then the police.”
Describing the statement by the Nigerian Police as a blatant lie, Oluwaseun stated that the Police could not have chased the hoodlums that had gone for two hours.
In his words, “In addition, it was around 6 am of Friday, 27th August, on my way back to the station, with my allies that we spotted the car, parked about 10 meters to the gate of the police station with the car key left on the driver’s seat.
“We then called the attention of police who were themselves shocked at the development. Having inspected it, nothing was missing except the car plate numbers, Arsenal stickers, and all political related documents and personal identity cards. So, where and how did the police ‘chase the hoodlums which led to the recovery of the said stolen vehicle?’”
He accused the Osun Police Command of being spurious, maliciously fallacious and unprofessional in their conduct when they through their spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola stated that his wife was trailed to their home by some hoodlums and also that the case was purely an armed robbery incident.
He maintained that it was him and not his wife that was trailed to their home because his wife and children had been home hours before his arrival by past 10 pm and the attack was carried out minutes after his entry.
“If the fact of brutality to myself and family, threat to snuff out my life, and the strange incidence of returning the vehicle to where myself and the police can recover it, with the focus of the assailants more on obtaining my documentations than material valuable, made any sympathetic writer suggest ‘attempted assassinations’, the police must simply factor it in as one of several possibilities during their thorough investigation rather than rush to fictitious and partisan conclusions on a case they have not conclusively investigated.
“The statement of the police that ‘the case is purely an armed robbery incident as nobody was killed’, speaks to no sense at all,” he said.
Oluwaseun then charged the police to be neutral, professional and not to be deceptive allies of desperate politicians.
The Osun Police Command had on Tuesday through a public service announcement signed by Yemisi Oplalola, its Police Public Relations Officer debunked the claims of an assassination attempt by Abosede Oluwaseun.
In the announcement, Opalola also stated that the police had swung into action and chased after the hoodlums immediately after they got the information which led to the recovery of the said stolen vehicle.
