Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State who is also the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum has stated that the withdrawal of military personnel from the checkpoints in Ondo State is a plan to target the Southwest Security Network, popular known as Amotekun.
Recall that it was reported that the Soldiers on the highway in the state were absent from their check- points.
While reacting to the development, the People Democratic Party (PDP) condemned Governor Akeredolu for his inability to pay allowances due to the soldiers.
The opposition party added that the development is dangerous for the safety of lives and property of the good people of Ondo, especially with the security problems confronting the state.
However, while replying to the statement, the Ondo State Government through the Commissioner of Information, Donald Ojogu, disclosed that the concerned Nigeria Army hasn’ t made a statement regarding the claim.
Further told the People Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigerians that the State Security Network, Amotekun is the target of those that withdrew Soldiers from the State.
Akeredolu added that the state won’ t be deterred in any form as they have determined to fight insecurity even during difficult times.
The statement read, ” The Ondo State Government desires not to go into the merits of the flying story about non- payment of allowances to any arm of the military. It deserves no such efforts more so, that, the concerned arm of the military has yet to issue any statement in that regard. ”
” It must clear to all, including the PDP, that, the target is AMOTEKUN. Unfortunately for whoever whose motive is to perpetuate violence under any guise, our resolve to sustain AMOTEKUN remains unwavering. We won’ t be deterred in any form. Our time- tested character and attitude toward tackling insecurity even at odd times, shall not be compromised, ” it added.
Recall that the Ondo State Governor championed the establishment of the Amotekun Security outfit all over the Southwest region, even though the Federal Government refused to support the formation.
